PLS becomes Community Transport Association affiliate

Passenger lift manufacturer PLS has become an official affiliate of the Community Transport Association (CTA).

The supplier says that collaboration will build on its established position as a provider of products to operators in that field and will see it work with CTA “to advance the standards of community transport and enhance accessibility for passengers.”

PLS will aim to contribute directly to initiatives that prioritise the safety, accessibility and inclusivity of community transport. That will see it support several key programmes including the Passenger Assistant Training Scheme (PATS), which is nationally recognised for those providing care and assistance to passengers travelling by road.

It will also work with CTA to enhance and redevelop the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS), ensuring that approach “remains the leading accreditation for the safe operation of minibuses with up to 16 seats and continues to meet the evolving needs of community transport providers,” PLS says.

Proper safety and maintenance of lifts in community transport vehicles will be a further focus of the arrangement between the two parties. A joint campaign will be staged to raise awareness around LOLER statutory thorough examinations, promoting the highest standards of operation.

Community Transport Association CEO Victoria Armstrong (pictured, centre) has visited the PLS manufacturing centre and head office. PLS Managing Director Adam Beck says that the Smethwick-based supplier has taken “a significant step forward” in becoming an affiliate.

He continues: “It provides a platform for us to contribute directly to improving the safety, accessibility and inclusivity of community transport. Our collaboration with initiatives like PATS, MiDAS and the LOLER awareness campaign demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting the sector with high-quality, reliable products and services.

“We look forward to working closely with CTA and its members to develop innovative solutions that better meet the unique needs of community transport operators.”
