Baumot, Eminox and Proventia benefit as money will be used to support CVRAS accreditation process
The government has awarded almost £1m to three retrofit technology suppliers that, subject to contracts being signed, will nurture 17 coach applications and seven bus installations to allow older vehicles to achieve Euro 6 emission levels.
Baumot, Eminox and Proventia will receive a total of £971,544 during 2018/19 and 2019/20, which will assist in the accreditation process.
First models known
The money will also go towards applications in trucks and a taxi. It is being awarded via the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme, which was developed by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and the Energy Saving Trust.
Of the companies that will receive the money, two have revealed some of the vehicle types that will dealt with.
The coach Euro 6 retrofit applications that Baumot will develop will be the Scania K 400 chassis with the DC-13 engine; DAF PR and MX engines; and Volvo B9R and B11R chassis. In buses, Baumot will accredit a solution for the Daimler OM 904 – as fitted to Optare models – and the Mercedes-Benz Citaro. Both complement its existing line-up of bus retrofits.
Proventia will develop accredited retrofit equipment for DAF-engined Bova Futura, Temsa Safari and VDL Futura 2 models, and solutions for two other coaches. The exact models are all still under review, Proventia says.
Already offered in buses by Proventia and accredited are packages for several Alexander Dennis Enviro models, three Volvo double-deck chassis, and the Euro 5 Wrightbus New Routemaster along with the VDL DB300-based Gemini 2 integral. It will add the Citaro to that list later.
Hard-to-tackle
Says Low CVP Managing Director Andy Eastlake: “Adopting electric power or changing to the latest new vehicles needs to be in operators’ long-term plans, but we also need more immediate options to deliver cleaner air. Developing robust retrofit solutions for hard-to-tackle vehicles is an expensive business. This funding will help to bring more accredited solutions to the market.”
