In the next stage of its plans to remove cash payments from buses, Dublin Bus is no longer paying refunds to passengers who over-pay.
Dublin Bus uses exact-fare-only cash vaults. Previously a ‘change receipt’ was issued for overpayments.
Now, the change will not be refunded. Instead the additional cash will be retained and a proportion will be used for charitable purposes with the remainder funding improvements to public transport services.
To encourage more people to use its Leap smartcard, cash fares are already “significantly higher” than the Leap fares.
The news comes as the Go-Ahead Ireland’s first tendered route, the 175, becomes operational.
All services will be on journey planners and tickets are multi-use.
Go-Ahead Ireland vehicles and Dublin Bus vehicles will operate with their own colour scheme, although both will be similar at the front which is yellow in both cases.
Inside the bus, the seats will be a different colour although poles are yellow in both Go-Ahead Ireland vehicles and Dublin Bus vehicles.
Bus stop poles and information carousels will look different depending on the operator.
Over the coming months as Go Ahead Ireland begins operation of its routes, customers will notice new bus stops being installed. This will be done in advance of the switch over and they will have stages, routes and timetables clearly marked on them.
