McGill’s Bus Group has promoted two of its younger members of managerial staff. Nathan Burge (pictured, above) has taken up the position of Group Health and Safety Manager and Ewan Gray (pictured, below) is elevated to the role of Depot Operations Manager at the Inchinnan base.
Those advancements have come as the UK’s largest independently owned bus operator says that it continues to seek new talent, particularly in would-be employees who thought the sector would not match their skillset.
Mr Gray has been in the industry since the age of 17, working late shifts as a shunter and cleaner for a business in Lanarkshire. He later moved through different roles at various operators and joined McGill’s in October 2022 as an Allocations Manager.
Meanwhile, Mr Burge has been in the industry for 10 years and with McGill’s since 2021, when he joined as Assistant Engineering Manager. In 2022 he became Engineering Standards Auditor. His career began as an engineering apprentice.
As Group Health and Safety Manager, Mr Burge will be charged with developing standards and reducing risk in that area. He is currently streamlining the McGill’s accident investigation process to convert it to a digital-led approach.
Inchinnan depot operates 24/7 via its FlixBus UK commitments, with Mr Gray saying that arm of the business “ensures great variety in my work.”
McGill’s Bus Group Managing Director Alex Hornby has congratulated Mr Gray on his elevation. “In many ways, Ewan typifies what can be achieved with the opportunities that are available at McGill’s and within the wider sector,” Mr Hornby says.
“He has worked hard to further his skills over the past 16 years but has also been aided by the chance to take part in training, typified by the support from those around him and what we offer new colleagues through our in-house McGill’s Academy.”
Engineering Director Russell Henderson has similarly acknowledged Mr Burge’s promotion. “He has been a real asset to the team since he joined us three years ago and it is great to see his hard work being recognised,” Mr Henderson observes.
“Nathan’s knowledge and skills will help us to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers and we have full confidence in his ability to excel in his position.”
