About the role
As an Assistant Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role and contribute to NCT’s mission of “providing those we serve with a safe, reliable, value for money, integrated, public transport network which has the least impact on our environment”. And you would do this by assisting the Operations Manager in the day-to-day running of the garage.
Working across two sites (Parliament Street Garage and Trent Bridge Garage) and with three other Assistant Operations Managers, some of your duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Assisting the Operations Manager in the delivery of the scheduled service in accordance with the Customer Charter and the requirements of the Traffic Commissioner
- Working in liaison with the Operations Manager and Senior HR colleagues to consistently apply HR standards specifically around recruitment and retention, performance and absence management in line with Company policies and legislation
- Monitoring sickness and attendance records against the required standard; taking the necessary remedial action actions as per Company policy
- Undertaking investigations and disciplinary for cases of misconduct and capability and preparing relevant reports; escalating to the Operations Manager where applicable
- Investigating industrial accidents and assaults during the performance of duty
- Investigating employee road traffic accidents, including cases of excessive non-blameworthy accidents; liaising with internal and external stakeholders for information and to provide information
- Conducting return to work and welfare meetings with employees following and during a sickness absence
- Assisting the Operations Manager with the preparation and presentation of statistical analysis for Cost Centre meetings and compilation of annual budgets
- Adhering to the Health and Safety responsibilities and obligations of the Company and regulatory bodies and codes of practice in respect of Health and Safety at Work and Environmental Protection in conjunction with the Engineering management team.
About you
You will be focussed on impact, results for both the customer and the Company, and have previous supervisory or management experience in the transport industry. You will have demonstrable experience of managing or supervising people and performance and be willing and able to have those difficult conversations when it comes to performance management. You will have integrity and be willing to promote and uphold the Company’s best interest at all times and be willing and able to attend and participate in meetings and training sessions as required; representing the Company at external events
In addition, you will:
- Have a management qualification up to CPC in Passenger Transport or be willing to work towards one within the next 12 months
- Be able to build and maintain professional yet collaborative and inclusive working relationships quickly and credibly with a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders
- Understand the importance and value of giving and receiving feedback and willing to have those difficult conversations
- Have demonstrable experience of supervising/managing performance effectively
- Possess excellent communication, persuasion and problem solving skills
- Be proactive but at the same time reactive to be able to respond to the changing needs of the Company
- Be able to work on your own initiative and prioritise work to meet deadlines
- Be able to analyse data and produce reports
- Have good literacy and be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite
Hours of work
Your hours of work will be 37 hrs per week, Monday to Friday; working on a two week shift rotation between the hours of 06:00 until 14:00 and 09:00 until 17:00 with an unpaid meal break. Please note that some flexibility will be required to meet operational requirements.
