J&K Coaches of Moneymore in Co Londonderry recently added a pair of Irizar i6S Efficient models to its fleet, supplied by Irizar UK.
They will be used on the operator’s corporate work and its tour programme. Each is a 12.9m, two-axle example with 53 i6 Plus seats upholstered in real leather and with extra padded wings.
Positions have a drop-down table and a footrest, while USB charging is at each pair. A Bosch Smart Series audio-visual system is part of the package, including a 22-inch monitor at the front of the saloon. Wi-fi is a further amenity.
Director Jim Quinn says that a visit to the factory near San Sebastian – his first to a coach manufacturing plant – was a key role in choosing the Irizar integral product. Sustainability and the i6S Efficient model’s focus on reducing fuel consumption was another influence, Mr Quinn adds.
“Seeing the meticulous production process first-hand and knowing that Irizar’s employees are shareholders gave me even greater assurance in the quality of their craftsmanship. Their personal investment in the company is reflected in the high standards they uphold.”
An increase in contracted work over coming years drove the purchase requirement for new coaches at the Northern Irish operator.
Going for the Irizar integral pair “was an obvious decision that aligned perfectly with our long-term vision,” continues Mr Quinn. “And what better way to make this milestone than by celebrating the 20th anniversary of J&K Coaches with two outstanding new additions to our fleet?”
Power in both coaches is from the DAF MX-11 engine developing 367bhp coupled to the ZF Traxon automated manual gearbox.
