Switch Mobility will supply a fleet of 12 Metrocity battery-electric buses to Tower Transit.

Tower Transit will be the first customer for the updated 9.4m Metrocity, with delivery expected in Q1 2023. The fleet will be deployed on Route 339 operating out of Lea Interchange and running between Shadwell and Leytonstone. It represents the first full electric vehicle Route run out of Lea Interchange.

The Metrocity battery-electric bus combines a 250kw/h NMC battery with a lightweight monocoque platform, providing a claimed range of up to 180 miles with a charging time below three hours.

“Switch is proud to supply the most efficient electric buses in the UK and we are delighted to be working with Tower Transit to electrify Route 339,” says Andy Palmer, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Switch Mobility. “Our Metrocity product is perfectly suited to the requirements of London’s roads and passengers on this route will soon be able to travel knowing that their journey will be carbon neutral, supporting a greener planet.”
