All ‘Big Five’ now use OEM brake parts

Imperial Engineering has retained its contract to supply Arriva with OEM air braking components from manufacturers including Knorr-Bremse and Wabco.

Arriva is now taking OEM air dryer and compressor parts in place of remanufactured products. As a result, all the ‘big five’ – Arriva, First Group, Go Ahead, National Express and Stagecoach – are fitting genuine OEM air braking parts for the first time in over 15 years.

The decision to revert to OEM parts is of significance due to the problem of oil carry-over in the air compressor, says Imperial Engineering, which has been supplying braking parts to Arriva Bus UK since 2004.

Oil carry-over typically occurs when the compressor’s mechanical parts start to suffer from excessive wear, causing the lubricating oil to enter the air system.

This can ultimately result in the compressor failing, as well as damage to valves and seals throughout the air braking system.

John Dwight, Imperial Engineering’s Sales Manager, says: “We are delighted that Arriva Bus UK has renewed its contract, which marks the 13th consecutive year of our relationship.

The fact that all of the UK’s Big Five bus operators now all exclusively use genuine OEM air braking components for the first time in 15 years is also significant and speaks volumes about the quality of the OEM products we supply, as well as the support provided by the OE manufacturers and ourselves to our customers.”

“We can provide long-term cost savings without compromising on quality.”
