The VARTA team are delighted to be a sponsor of the IRTE Bus and Coach Skills Challenge 2024, a great initiative to be involved with and an opportunity to showcase its range of heavy-duty batteries for the coach and bus industry.

Vince Ward, Technical Trainer and Sales Manager at VARTA, says: “We are really pleased to be sponsoring this scheme, which champions the very best coach and bus technicians in the UK, while at the same time educating the industry on the differing battery technologies available today, and ensuring the correct type is used on each application.”

VARTA’s flagship technology is the ProMotive absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery that ensures even the most modern coaches and buses always run reliably. In the latest buses, the battery is crucial for numerous functions and facilitates the safe transport of passengers.

Bus fleets are also being equipped with an increasing number of electronic comfort features, pushing traditional, conventional batteries to their limits, which can lead to premature failures.

“VARTA Promotive AGM is absolutely future-proof and still has plenty of free capacity for additional consumers,” emphasises Mr Ward.

“This applies not least to the increased use of electric or hybrid buses, which minimise pollution and noise emissions in city centres. In these vehicles, 24V systems remain essential for the functional safety of the vehicles.”

The absorbent glass fleece absorbs the battery acid and increases the cycle stability. This prevents capacity loss due to acid stratification and results in a battery life that is up to six times longer than with conventional batteries. Thanks to the special design, up to 80% of the specified capacity can be used without significantly affecting the service life.

In addition, the VARTA ProMotive AGM is maintenancefree, has a much better charge acceptance than conventional batteries and offers significantly higher starting performance than gel batteries.

To see the VARTA ProMotive AGM in use with coach and bus applications, you can check out the latest video on VARTA’s YouTube channel here.
