UK-based Eminox has become the first company approved for the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS) with its SCRT technology.

This means Eminox SCRT can be used as part of applications for the £30m Clean Bus Technology Fund, recently launched for local authorities.

The CVRAS certifies manufacturers and retrofit emissions reduction technology that meet Euro 6 real world emissions levels.

This certification scheme, run by the Energy Savings Trust, is designed to support action to reduce air pollution, by ensuring that only effective and proven retrofit technologies can be used.

London is to introduce the UK’s first Ultra-Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) and it may be introduced 17 months early, in April 2019.

Across England 28 local authorities are now tasked with producing plans to tackle air pollution and in Scotland, four LEZs are to be introduced, the first expected in 2018.

The accreditation scheme provides a national certification to prove that retrofitted vehicles will meet the requirements of all these zones.

In addition, the government has confirmed a £3m Clean Bus Technology Fund (CBTF) will be made available to local authorities across England and Wales until April 2019. The fund will be allocated for use only with CVRAS approved technologies.

The latest generation of SCRT technology, designed by Eminox, can reduce NOx and NO2 by 99%, and particulate matter by 95%, resulting in emissions equivalent to Euro 6.

Eminox’s SCRT technology is also approved for a wide range of diesel and hybrid buses including Volvo and Alexander Dennis as part of an £86m retrofit programme to upgrade around 5,000 Transport for London controlled buses across the capital.

Carlos Vicente, Business Development Manager for Eminox, said: “To be named as the first ever company to become CVRAS approved is a fantastic achievement for Eminox.

“We can now help operators who want to retrofit to meet the requirements of many new Euro 6 level emission zones across the UK.

“We have worked hard to make sure that the company stays ahead of the latest technology and be the first to provide certified retrofit equipment that meets the latest demanding standards.”
