Grant will allow bus services and DRT to continue to operate for users in and around Surrey town

Cash boost will allow Hoppa to continue to operate in Haslemere

A cash boost of £5,000 from Haslemere Town Council is helping local community transport organisation Hoppa to continue to provide bus service in the town.

Says Steve Forward, Hopper General Manager: “Although our customers pay towards their journeys, we rely on support such as this grant from Haslemere Town Council to plug the gap.

“We’re a local organisation providing a valuable service to local people, so we’re grateful for the council’s recognition of what we do for the town.”

Hoppa provides a number of scheduled bus routes and it also runs the door-to-door Ranger service, which is booked in advance. It is pursuing a strategy of increasing awareness of its services and in the demand-responsive sector that means targeting those aged over 60. Hoppa turns over £800,000 per annum.

“We have supported Hoppa for many years through our annual grants scheme,” says Mayor Councillor Sahran Abeysundara of Haslemere Town Council.

“Hoppa’s community bus is highly-valued by customers in Haslemere. Changes to local health provision mean that it’s important that our residents can get to Frimley Park Hospital. For those who can’t drive or use conventional public transport, it’s Hoppa’s Ranger service that many turn to for visiting friends and family.”

Hoppa also operates services in Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and surrounding villages.
