Today’s cycling population remains on the increase, both for pleasure and commuting purposes, with figures showing a 50% increase in people using bicycles as a main mode of transport between 2013 and 2017.

Cycling Scotland, funded by Transport Scotland, is the nation’s cycling organisation. Working with others, it helps create and deliver opportunities and an environment so that anyone in Scotland can cycle safely.

It has been shown that by placing drivers in the same position as people on bicycles, they gain a better appreciation of the dangers faced. This in turn helps to minimise the risks involved between PCV drivers and vulnerable road users.

Training involves two modules that contribute to seven hours of Driver CPC time.

3.5 hours – Classroom based ‘vulnerable road user’ module.

3.5 hours – Practical cycling element promoting greater understanding of cyclist behaviour through role reversal.

Cycling Scotland is offering fully-funded taster sessions to fleet operators across Scotland.
