Arriva has launched contactless payment on its Luton and Dunstable Busway fleet.

‘Busway Buddies’ will be on hand at key boarding points to show passengers how they could be using the very latest in boarding technology to make their journey’s even easier. It will accept all credit and debit cards, as well Apple and Android Pay.

Linsey Frostick, General Manager at Arriva Luton, says: “It’s a privilege to be among the first at Arriva to add contactless to our fleet.

“The Luton and Dunstable Busway remains one of the busiest routes we operate on in the UK and we’re keen to show our gratitude to our loyal customers here by proving our commitment to improving the passenger experience and developing our bus fleet. The fast journey times deserve fast boarding times and paying by card is quick and convenient, just like the busway.

“We hope that with its addition, contactless will make bus travel even more accessible for people who perhaps previously didn’t consider it as an option. When coupled with our high-frequency network, affordable multi-journey ticketing options, wi-fi on board, plus our journey planning and m-ticket apps, we’re confident that we are succeeding on bringing bus travel up to date, and delivering a service that will fit right into our customers lifestyles.

“This new technology will give passengers the freedom and convenience to go cash-free, which will reduce boarding times and speed up journeys as a result – helping thousands of passengers, as well as tackling congestion.”
