The Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) National Final 2022 will now take place over the weekend of 1 and 2 October in Blackpool, representing a two-week change from the originally planned September dates.
Entries to the 2022 Bus Driver of the Year competition will remain open for another two months, to 15 May, and the organisers report that operators from across the UK have already confirmed their drivers’ attendance. Among those are First Cymru; First Hants and Dorset; Go South Coast; PeoplesBus; Stagecoach Bluebird; Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire; Stagecoach East Scotland; Stagecoach North East; and Yellow Buses.
The organisers add that financial backing has “started to trickle in” for the event, which returns after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they are actively canvassing for further commercial support to ensure BDoY’s ongoing viability,
Says BDoY Chair Joe Mackie: “The competition is the ideal opportunity for operators to present their best drivers to the public and to afford them the chance to win valuable prizes and claim the accolade of UK Bus Driver of the Year.
“Not only will the 2022 National Final mark a return to normality, but it will enable operators to reward staff who have shown commendable levels of professionalism at a time of extreme difficulties.”
Operators need only decide upon the number of drivers that they wish to participate in the BDoY National Final when entering. They can do that via the event’s website. Further information about the competition may be obtained from Operations Director and Vice Chair Keith Fieldhouse via email.
