The coach and bus industry, and preserved vehicle owners, will further support the people of Ukraine through a charity running day that is to be held in Lewes, East Sussex, on Sunday 3 April.
Organised by David Mulpeter of locally based operator Seven Sisters Bus and Coach, support has already been committed by Compass Travel, Ensignbus, Go South Coast, Regency Coaches, Southdown Buses, Stagecoach South and Xelabus. Their vehicles will run alongside members of Mr Mulpeter’s fleet and other preserved buses.
As part of the running day, two services, from Lewes to Seaford and Uckfield respectively, will each operate every 30min between 1030-1630hrs. Some feeders will additionally run from and to Brighton, East Grinstead and Worthing.
Mr Mulpeter says that there has been “a good response” from the industry and vehicle owners so far, adding that the running day was his idea to do something to help the Ukrainian people. Donations can be made via a GoFundMe link – pinned at the top of the event’s Facebook page – or through collection buckets on the day.
“We all need to do our bit to help, so please support us and donate,” adds Mr Mulpeter. For further information on the event, contact him direct via email.
The running day will follow other work already done by the industry to support Ukraine. Among that is an offer from Oxford Bus Company of free travel on its Airline route from Gatwick and Heathrow Airports to holders of Ukrainian passports, while Newport Bus has branded a double-decker in blue and yellow to show its solidarity with the war-hit nation.
