Organisers of the UK Bus Driver of the Year National Final have extended the cut-off date for entries to the 2025 competition, which will be held in Blackpool on Sunday 14 September.

Submissions from operators large and small have been received but the organisers say that there remains room for more. The deadline has thus been pushed back to Saturday 31 May, with Secretary Paul Mackay noting how that extension will give sufficient time for other businesses considering participation to enter drivers.

The competition has traditionally attracted contestants from large groups, municipal operators, and independent companies. It is hoped that more submissions from each of those segments will be made ahead of the deadline.

UK Bus Driver of the Year Association Chairman Joe Mackie adds that the 2025 National Final is set to be “a fantastic place for operators of all sizes to showcase their drivers’ skills and especially their commitment to excellent customer service.”

Those that enter drivers into the National Final are also invited to make a vehicle available for the driving tests. Manufacturers and other suppliers are likewise encouraged to take advantage of the sponsorship opportunities available.

The 2024 Bus Driver of the Year National Final was won by Lothian East Coast Buses man Thomas Gilhooley. He came away with £4,600 in prize money across multiple categories besides the headline trophy.

Further information can be found on the Bus Driver of the Year website or by contacting Mr Mackay via email or on 07827 936787.
