The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has extended its recently launched Cost Monitor scheme to capture the coach sector. CPT is now asking operators in that segment to supply data that will help to inform the mechanism.
Using the Cost Monitor, coach operators will be able to benchmark their costs and performance anonymously against their peers. It will also be utilised to inform CPT’s discussions with governments and industry stakeholders, the Confederation says.
Separate Cost Monitors for coach and bus recognise the differences between those operations and how they are costed, CPT continues. As part of the establishment of the coach mechanism, the trade body is asking operators to share a week’s data from both February and June 2022.
As with the previous Cost Index that the Cost Monitor has succeeded, the new scheme will be updated twice yearly and split by region. Data will be collated by third party 2FM to ensure that individual operators’ returns are anonymised and protected.
When it introduced the Cost Monitor for buses in January, CPT said that the coach version would be “more straightforward.” Use of its previous Cost Index ceased during the pandemic period.
