Time is running out to submit a bid for a share of the £30m Clean Bus Technology Fund
Deadline day looms – it is on 17 November – to bid for a share of the £30m Clean Bus Technology Fund (CBTF) as a way to help local authorities improve air quality in the UK.
With around 50,000 people in the UK dying prematurely each year due to air pollution, it is crucial that all options are considered. Retrofitting existing buses, with the help of the CBTF, can provide a cost effective solution to roadside air pollution.
The £30m CBTF can be used to retrofit more than 1,500 buses with equipment such as Eminox SCRT, bringing them to real world Euro 6 standards.
“Eminox has developed near zero emission technology in our SCRT, which can significantly 1reduce pollution from existing heavy duty vehicles, such as buses, as well as consistently monitor its performance in real time data,” said Eminox International Business Development Manager Carlos Vicente.
Bids for the CBTF need to be submitted by midday 17 November with successful bids being announced in January 2018.
The UK manufactured SCRT is currently the only technology to be approved by the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS), which is a compulsory requirement for the CBTF.
The product is capable of reducing NOx and NO2 by 99%, and particulate matter by 95% whilst using a Control and Diagnostics Interface (CADi), which integrates with the vehicle’s On Board Diagnostics (OBD) to actively manage SCRT systems and optimise performance.
In addition, real world, real time telematics allows emissions performance to be remotely tracked.
Eminox SCRT is proven in real-world operation, having been used to upgrade around 4,000 buses around the UK, and further afield.
SCRT has already been approved to aid in the £86.1 million project retrofitting 5,000 Transport for London buses in preparation for the introduction of the ULEZ.
Carlos explained: “When looking at how to reduce air pollution in cities, retrofitting heavy-duty vehicles is the most viable solution.
“Retrofitting existing buses with new exhausts will help significantly reduce not just roadside NO2, but also Particulate Matter, which is far more harmful to the population.
“Our telematics solution, with its real world performance data, gives reassurance that it is continuing to reduce emissions in urban environments, where it can really make a difference, whilst assuring the governments funding is being utilised to deliver the best value for money.”
