New CEO to take up the position in May and is joined by two additional recruits

The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has appointed Graham Vidler as its new Chief Executive.

Mr Vidler, who was previously Director of External Affairs at the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association, will take up his new post on Tuesday 7 May.

A key position

CPT President Martin Dean says: “Graham’s vast experience within external relations, communications and policy roles means he is ideally positioned to lead our trade association.

“He brings a huge amount of practical and detailed business knowledge to this key position, and I am confident that his appointment will further establish CPT as the organisation leading the debate on the future of road transport and the on-going contribution of coach and bus.”

Before joining the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association, Mr Vidler was Director of Communications and Engagement at NEST Pensions from 2008-14, having previously held marketing, policy and research roles at AVIVA, Which?, the ABI and the House of Commons.

Mr Vidler says: “I am delighted to be joining CPT during these critical yet exciting times for the industry. There has never been a better time for coach and bus operators to join together and demonstrate the vital role they have to play in helping governments, local authorities and stakeholders meet our shared objectives – improving air quality, reducing road congestion and supporting the economic prosperity of our towns and high streets – while continuing to provide a first-class service to passengers.

“I very much look forward to meeting with CPT members across the UK to learn first-hand about the many challenges they face and the changing operational landscape which lies ahead.”

Further appointments

Joining Mr Vidler are Tom Brackenbury and Alison Edwards, who will be taking on the roles of External Relations Manager and Policy and Public Affairs Manager respectively within CPT’s newly-created External Relations Unit.

Interim Chief Executive Peter Gomersall will return to the role of Deputy Chief Executive during the transitionary period.
