External mirrors have been replaced with cameras an in-cab displays

Alexander Dennis (ADL) has delivered the first Enviro buses with high-definition digital cameras and interior displays in place of traditional mirrors.

The view from the SmartVision cameras is digitally processed to compensate for lighting, shadows or glare. Displays are within the cab and the system gives two views per monitor: Standard and wide angle.

Obstruction of the nearside display by an open door is prevented by it being mounted centrally. Screen brightness adjusts automatically to give consistent visibility day and night.

SmartVision is supplied by French company Vision-Systems through UK distributor 21st Century Technology. ADL says that besides improving visibility, they also reduce aerodynamic resistance and cut the risk of injury to passengers or pedestrians.
