First Bus has launched a new driver uniform across the UK.

It includes tailored blouses with hidden modesty buttons for women, a ‘sholo’ (shirt meets polo), plus a bodywarmer to help provide comfort for drivers.

First’s drivers across the UK will be seen in the new uniform over the coming months as the business “strives to make its drivers the best dressed on the roads.”

First says it recognised the need to update its uniform and provide all its drivers, women in particular, with a more modern and comfortable wardrobe. It has already undergone trials at depots across the UK.

After a staff consultation First has introduced an entire new wardrobe, including an innovative ‘sholo’ (shirt meets polo).

First is only the second UK company to introduce the ‘sholo’. It has shirt material on its front, with polo shirt material on the sleeves and back to allow for extra movement.

Other items are tailored blouses, body warmers, new ‘trainer’ style shoes, trousers with a hidden elastic waist, tie with an updated design and coats with a removable lining and more pockets.

First Bus UK MD Giles Fearnley says: “Our drivers are our ambassadors, so it is important that they not only look the part but their uniform is comfortable and functional to wear.”

The uniform is designed and supplied by Derby-based Dimensions.
