Glasgow City Council (GCC) has become the first local authority in Scotland to achieve IRTE accreditation in both workshop and engineering best practice.

Audited by the Freight Transport Association, GCC passed a series of inspections to achieve the accreditations for its two workshops. Its 10-strong workshop engineering team also each achieved their irtec licences.

Says Alex Colquhoun, GCC Group Manager of Fleet Maintenance and Repair (pictured): “This accreditation is testament to the hard work and commitment shown by the GCC team.

“With the rapidly changing fleet profile, we are committed to upskilling our workforce to ensure that we maximise the use of new and improved processes to ensure that our fleet is not only safe and reliable, it is maintained to the highest standard with minimised downtime.”

GCC now plans to work towards becoming a member of the DVSA Earned Recognition scheme.
