Sustainable travel promoter Greener Journeys has called for Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak to end the freeze on fuel duty in his 11 March Budget.
It claims that the freeze has led to 250m fewer bus journeys, 5% more traffic and an extra 15,000 tonnes of NOx emissions since 2011.
Claire Haigh, Chief Executive of Greener Journeys, says: “Ending the freeze would send a clear message that the UK is serious about meeting its net zero target. By nudging people to switch some of their car journeys to public transport, it would also support those transport networks that are vital for improving life chances for everyone.”
