Importance of high-quality oil in AC compressor

Behr Hella Service is reminding operators that using high-quality oil in air-conditioning (AC) compressors is of paramount importance.

As good practice, oil in the AC system should be refreshed at a service or replaced when the compressor is changed.

Every compressor is pre-filled with oil to stop dirt, debris and moisture from entering, but the oil needs refreshing over time to maintain its efficiency. That means that is should be drained and refilled with a specific grade of oil.

Technicians should thus check OEM oil specifications. The incorrect amount or type of oil could lead to increased wear, premature compressor failure and invalidation of the warranty,

To assist with the varying filling quantities for the oils that is sells that are suitable for use in an AC unit, Behr Hella Service's free compressor app, which is available to both iOS and Android users, provides operators with accurate quantities of refrigerants and oils, making it easier and safer for technician to service a compressor.
