With the launch of the seventh IRTE Skills Challenge contest, the IRTE is looking forward to another year of recognising and rewarding the unsung heroes of the transport industry

It could be because you want to prove you are the best technician in your depot; it could be to gain recognition in the industry; or it could be for the thrill of the competition.

Whatever the reason to enter the Skills Challenge 2017, the experience of competing against others is greatly rewarding and it could give your career a huge boost.

Now, more than ever, operators across the country are reliant on their technicians to ensure their enterprise is efficient. The Skills Challenge was launched in 2011 to raise the standards of coach and bus technicians to levels unprecedented in the UK and Ireland’s workshops.

As vehicles change in their dynamics, technicians will need to adapt and improve their skills to keep pace. The Skills Challenge is the perfect way to keep up, while retaining all the necessary expertise in this ever-changing environment – and the beginning of the year is the perfect time to commit to new challenges.

With the growth of its licensing for road transport technicians, irtec, and the Workshop Accreditation scheme, together with irtec light, the accreditation for technicians and apprentices working with 3.5-7.5 tonne vehicles, the IRTE is gearing up for a year of frenetic activity.

Over the coming months it will be showcasing some of the teams and individuals competing for the top prizes, and rewarding road transport’s unsung heroes.
