Jason Edwards, Managing Director of Edwards Coaches, has been named the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan 2020.
Award-winning Edwards Coaches operates 310 coaches from depots across South Wales, and has recently expanded with a new depot in Bristol.
Mr Edwards started working for the fifth-generation family firm when he was 10 years old, cleaning the school buses at weekends for pocket money. At 17 he became a mechanical aircraft engineering apprentice with British Airways, later taken over by General Electric, where Mr Edwards worked for 13 years before becoming involved with the family business.
In 2012 he was awarded the Institute of Directors’ Family Director of the Year Wales award, and was runner-up in the UK.
The Office of High Sheriff is an independent non-political royal appointment, made for a single year. The Ceremony of the Nomination of High Sheriffs took place on Monday 13 November at the Royal Courts of Justice, London.
He says: “I am extremely humbled and honoured to be thought of in such high circles.
“I really am a local rugby club lad whose feet are firmly on the floor. The nomination is a truly exciting opportunity that I’m respectfully looking forward to, and hopefully I can engage with the local communities and make that little bit of difference during my time as High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan.”
