Kinchbus has ordered 21 Yutong battery-electric single-deckers from supplier Pelican Bus and Coach. They will be deployed on services in Loughborough.
The delivery will be made up by what a spokesperson for the operator says is a mix of E9L midis (pictured) and E12 full-size models. They are being part-funded by the Leicestershire County Council bid to the second round of the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas fund and will arrive with the Wellglade Group business from Q3 2025.
Managing Director Tom Morgan says: “This significant investment underscores our commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable public transport” and that the new buses play a key part in the Kinchbus decarbonisation strategy.
“Our drivers and engineers are excited to work with these cutting-edge technologies, which will futureproof their skills and place them at the forefront of the green transport revolution.”
The electric bus procurement for Kinchbus takes to 42 the number of Yutong vehicles due across the group. Sister company Trentbarton has 21 diesel GT12 coaches in hand, which will be split between the Derby to Nottingham Red Arrow service and FlixBus duties.
When combined, the orders represent an investment of over £13 million with Pelican Bus and Coach. Head of Yutong UK Ian Downie notes that the electric bus specification has been matched to the buyer and “is testament to the exacting standards of innovation and customer experience that Kinchbus rightly prides itself on.”
Double-glazing and cantilever seating are among those items, alongside other items that Mr Downie describes as passenger centric. Saloon air-conditioning is fitted as standard.
Adds Mr Morgan: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Pelican on this order. Its dedication and flexibility have been instrumental in helping us to elevate the standards of our on-board customer environment.
“Together with our esteemed partners Camira and Altro, we are committed to creating an interior that not only sets a new benchmark for the industry but also thoughtfully addresses the diverse needs of all our customers, including those with disabilities and neurodivergent sensitivities.”
