Additional building at Miall Street takes output to over 500 small buses per year for innovative firm
Mellor has opened a new production facility at its Rochdale site to allow it to satisfy a growing order book for its small bus range.
A plot adjacent to Mellor’s existing Miall Street premises was purchased in late 2017. The two have been amalgamated to deliver an additional 15,000ft2 of production space.
Four new lines can be accommodated in the newly-added building and that takes potential output to more than 500 vehicles per annum.
In total, Mellor has spent £1m on the work, which includes office space and the comprehensive refurbishment of the additional building.
Growth has been driven by strong demand for Mellor’s products. MD John Randerson says that it is increasingly being seen as “the manufacturer of choice” for smaller buses by purchasers in both the private and the public sectors.
“This production expansion is vital to our business so that we can meet the requirements of many leading bus operators,” says Mr Randerson.
“Our small buses are simply that: Smaller versions offering the same benefits as their larger cousins, including 2+2 seating, wi-fi, destination displays and leather seating to name but a few.”
The expansion will create 40 new jobs over the next three years and it will also support Mellor’s export aspirations.
