Mellor Coachcraft owners Woodall Nicholson Holdings has bought Treka Bus owner Villmount.

Treka and Mellor will continue to trade as separate brands and be run by their existing management teams.

Villmount, owned by founder Mark Clissett, 56, runs Treka from two sites in Brighouse, West Yorkshire and is best known for its high-floor coachbuilt vehicles and minibuses.

Production of Treka minibuses will continue as usual

In the year to March 2016 Villmount had pre-tax profits of £113,047 on a £15.3m turnover.

Mr Clissett becomes a consultant to Treka, while his son Morgan, 28, becomes Treka’s MD.

Mellor, based in Rochdale and Scarborough, produces low-floor coachbuilt small diesel and electric buses.

Mark Clissett says: “I am very proud of what we have achieved at Treka and see this transaction as the next natural evolution in its lifecycle. The rest of the management team and staff have a great future ahead alongside their new colleagues.”

John Randerson, Woodall Nicholson Bus Division MD says: “This is an excellent opportunity for both businesses.  Our distinct brands and products complement each others, providing additional customer choice.

“In addition, we will be able to take engineering best practice from both businesses and look at introducing new products, such as using our electric vehicle expertise with Treka.”

Mellor have also accelerated its export activities.  So far, dealers have been appointed in seven European countries and left-hand drive vehicles for export markets were launched at Bus World in Kortrijk, Belgium.

Treka and Mellor say they are committed to providing the widest range of choice, for high-floor and low-floor products, van conversion and coachbuilt vehicles, and diesel or electric drive, in the UK and overseas.
