London’s first bus driver apprenticeship has been launched by Metroline, which has also officially opened two new training centres.

Metroline bus apprentices

The 24 new apprentices selected to join the bus operator’s scheme will receive support, training and upskilling over a period of 12 months. They will be involved in modules aimed at helping them develop confidence and encourage skills development and receive practical hands-on and classroom-based training.

The apprenticeships’ combination of practical training and off-the-job learning will be supported by Metroline’s training partner Interserve.

Coinciding with the bus driver apprenticeship scheme’s launch, two new ‘Metroline Centres for Skills and Development’ training centre have been officially opened at the bus operator’s Cricklewood and Willesden Junction garages.

“We are confident that our new apprentices will benefit from this initiative and will have a great experience gaining confidence, new skills and an additional recognised qualification,” says Ron Capper, Head of Metroline’s Recruitment and Training, about the new bus driver apprenticeship.

Claire Mann, Director of Bus Operations at Transport for London, says: “We’re delighted that Metroline is introducing this apprenticeship scheme that will give people vital life skills and training.”
