Greensand County community minibus serves 50 parishes in Central Bedfordshire to help passengers that are unable to use conventional public transport; run by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity

The minibus will serve 50 parishes in the centre and east of Bedfordshire

Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) launched the accessible Greensand Country community minibus service in January. It serves 50 parishes in the centre and east of Central Bedfordshire.

The service started running in October 2018, and between then and January’s launch it provided 1,535 door-to-door journeys.

It runs between 0830-1700hrs Monday to Friday and serves disabled and elderly residents who are unable to use conventional buses. Vehicles are operated by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC) on behalf of BCC as part of the charity’s range of community transport services in Bedfordshire.

Says Councillor Ian Dalgarno, CBC Executive Member for Community Services: “We know how important public transport is, especially in rural areas where it is not always viable to run a regular bus.

“This door-to-door service enables those who cannot use conventional public transport to go shopping, visit friends and attend doctor’s appointments. It’s one of the services that people don’t often know about, and we are keen for more passenger to use and benefit from it.”

Adds BRCC Chief Executive Tracy Cowan: “We are very pleased and excited to welcome our new Greensand Country service, which will help us to continue to connect communities across Bedfordshire. It joins several other initiatives within BRCC, providing excellent services to enhance and support our most needy and isolated residents.”
