Iveco Busmaster member Minibus Options has developed what it describes as the UK’s largest accessible conversion.
The 7.6m, M2 Daily-based vehicle can carry a maximum of seven wheelchair users, and it is also able to take 17 seated passengers.
“Previously, if a buyer wanted to carry more than six wheelchair users it would have been restricted to the coachbuilt route, but with our solution we can bring this new vehicle to market for less than £60,000,” says Minibus Options Sales Director Fred James.
Mr James adds that strong interest is expected in the new model. It is targeted particularly at community transport groups and local authorities, and it will help them to reduce vehicle purchase outlay.
Internally it has semi-high backed seats on quick-release, anti-rattle lockables, coach-style powered roof air vents, LED lighting, and a reversing camera.
At the sliding centre door is a unique cut-in step well and manual fold-out step. Both have been developed by Minibus Options for easy access for less-mobile passengers.
The converter is also working with Iveco on the design of a similar minibus that takes advantage of its gas-fuelled range. It will be able to carry up to five wheelchair users; the lift must be located internally owing to the gas tanks’ positioning.
