Three years till Passion Play 2020

Tour planning has begun for the Oberammergau Passion Play in 2020, the world-famous 10-yearly event.

The modern venue of Oberammergau’s famous 380-year-old play

The Play, which began in 1634 and runs in every year ending in zero, tells the story of Christ’s Passion. All 2,400 actors, including 650 children, 100 choristers and orchestra, must either have been born in Oberammergau or have lived there for 20 years.

Over 500,000 visitors are expected over the May-October 2020 season.

Wholesaler Norman Allen Group Travel (NAGT) is now planning its involvement in its sixth Play season since 1980 (including a special 350-year anniversary performance in 1984).

Demand for tickets traditionally exceeds supply, so NAGT warns that early registration is vital to secure preferred dates and accommodation type.

There is no commitment at this stage but registrations will be progressed on a first-come-first-served basis, and NAGT can provide help and advice from past seasons. Registered groups will also get priority updates of the final booking details as they become available during 2017.

The Play season is expected to run from mid-May to early October 2020, with five performances a week.

NAGT offers two-night ‘arrangements’, to include half-board accommodation nearby, lunch and theatre tickets.

This is normally the highlight of a 10-day tour including a stay in Austria, Italy or Switzerland.
