Forty riders from the transport and logistics sector have completed a 187-mile cycle ride from London to Paris, raising £65,000 in support of Transaid.
The group, who represented companies including Dawsongroup, Backhouse Jones, Abbey Logistics Group, DVV Media, EORI, Fagan & Whalley, GXO, IVECO, Malcolm Group, Michelin, Microlise, PF Whitehead and PMMS Consultancy, arrived at the Eiffel Tower yesterday at the end of their three-day adventure.
Transaid’s work is focused improving road safety and access to health for rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
Including funding from headline sponsor uTrack Software and support sponsor DP World, the team had raised £65,000 before costs before they completed their trip, with more funds still arriving.
After opening up with 65 miles from London’s Greenwich Observatory to Newhaven on Friday, the riders boarded a ferry to Dieppe. They then undertook 70 miles to Beauvais on Saturday, when they collectively suffered 20 punctures, before finishing with 54 miles into the French capital yesterday.
Transaid’s Head of Fundraising, Florence Bearman, says: “This has been an incredible way to mark our silver jubilee, and a massive thank you goes to everyone who either jumped in the saddle to support us, or who sponsored one of the riders.
“Once again we’ve shown how the industry comes together to support Transaid, raising vital unrestricted funds which will help us to save more lives through our vital road safety and access to healthcare projects.”
Transaid was founded in 1998 by Save the Children and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Last year’s Transaid ride was 505km across Malawi, while next year’s 11th fund-raiser will involve a six-day, 474km journey across Kenya on 4-13 October.
