Paul Jennings of the board at VisitDundee, and Lynne Short of Dundee City Council

VisitDundee, a new tourism venture for Dundee and Angus, has been launched to harness increased tourism activity in the city ahead of the opening of V&A Dundee.

The Scottish Government’s Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop endorsed the new body as she launched the 2018 Dundee & Angus Tourism Conference.

“The idea behind VisitDundee is to turn visitors to the V&A into overnight stays and short breaks,” she says. “This new partnership between the public and private sectors will help to maximise the many opportunities that lie ahead for Dundee.”

VisitDundee was formed by a group of private businesses and individuals. It aims to spread the economic impact of the new design museum to bed nights, meals, transport, retail and visitor attractions – and to benefit the whole city and surrounding area.

VisitDundee's pledge to make tourism “a body's business” is a fun poke at the catchphrase of Dundee cartoon character Oor Wullie.
