Women in Bus and Coach (WiBC) has launched a Midlands region, expanding on its already established Northern and London regions.
Following the launch at the Forest of Arden Hotel, near Birmingham, the development means WiBC can create stronger local networks to support women across the industry, the organisation says.
Karen Tiley, Confederation of Passenger Transport Manager (CPT) for CPT Midlands and South, will be Chair of the WiBC Midlands region. Sally Walder, Roberts Travel Group Sales Director, has been named Vice Chair.
As well as Ms Tiley and Ms Walder, the launch was also attended by WiBC incoming Chair Laura Hadzik, CPT President Kathryn Pulham, and Richard Turfitt, Traffic Commissioner for the East of England.
The formation of the new region will help industry professionals across the area “connect, share experiences and support career development” in a further effort to promote diversity and inclusion, says WiBC.
Louise Cheeseman, Chair of WiBC, says: “The launch of our Midlands region marks another important step in the continued growth of Women in Bus and Coach. Regional networks are vital in ensuring that women across the industry have opportunities to connect, share knowledge and support one another locally.
“The energy and enthusiasm we have seen from colleagues across the Midlands demonstrates just how important these networks are in helping to build a more inclusive and representative industry for the future.”
Ms Tiley adds: “It is fantastic to see such strong support for the launch of the Midlands region. The bus, coach and community transport industry in this region is vibrant and diverse, and this new network will provide a space for people to connect, learn from each other and champion the role of women across the sector.
“We look forward to building a strong and supportive community that will help inspire and empower women throughout the Midlands.”
