Go North East (GNE) hosted a Women in Bus conference last week. It was part of the Go-Ahead Group’s initiative of the same name that aims to increase gender diversity within its bus business.
80% of attendees were female, with nearly 50 representatives from Go-Ahead’s bus operations across the UK present.
The conference included presentations on research into what attracts candidates to the bus sector, the sharing of best practice from across the Group’s subsidiaries and a discussion on how vacancies can be advertised to a wider audience.
The Women in Bus network intended to increase female representation among Go-Ahead bus workforce to 20%. It also sets out to support, develop and empower female colleagues.
Says GNE MD Martijn Gilbert: “We are committed to continuing to improve the diversity of our team. The level of debate and action coming out of the event was impressive and it will help us to do even more in this important area.”
