The Young Bus Professionals group will hold its next conference on 15-16 April in Nottingham, returning to the city for the first time in 10 years.
Events will commence on the afternoon of 15 April with a visit to Nottingham City Transport, with delegates getting the opportunity to see the challenges that the operator has faced in commencing the electrification of its historic depots.
After that, Thomas Ableman of Freewheeling Associates will discuss his varied career and how he now works to drive transport integration models from continental Europe into UK thinking.
Day two will see delegates hear from further members of the bus industry and those beyond it. Speakers then are set to include:
-
- East Midlands Combined County Authority Transport Planner Fiona Morris, who will talk about partnership
- Bus Users UK Chief Executive Lydia Horbury, who will discuss the passenger perspective and the bus industry’s need to put customers first
- Nottingham City Transport Head of Marketing and Projects Anthony Carver-Smith and former Marketing Director Nicola Tidy, exploring the operator’s transformation
- First Bus Midlands, Manchester and South Yorkshire Managing Director Zoe Hands, who will speak about how her role is evolving.
By popular demand, the conference will see a return of the group activity. Go South Coast Commercial Director David Lee-Kong will challenge delegates to think differently about transport priorities and think outside the box as the bus industry enters new political environments.
Individuals from across the private and public sectors of the bus industry are encouraged to attend the conference regardless of their background or role. Organisers note that it will take “some focus on the political structure underpinning the industry,” and that all involved in shaping that are welcome.
The agenda has been organised by Mr Lee-Kong, Stagecoach Yorkshire Managing Director Matt Kitchin, and Nottingham City Transport Head of Operations David Conway.
Speaking about the programme, Mr Kitchin says: “We have a great agenda planned for our spring conference, and the support from across the industry and partners continues to be excellent. We are looking forward to an enjoyable time in Nottingham.”
Young Bus Professionals continues to be supported by the Chris Moyes Scholarship Trust as an informal not-for-profit organisation to help to develop the bus industry and its next generation of leaders.
