Zeelo works with Gatwick to run commuter coach service to hub

Passenger Plus will supply vehicles for first route, with eight daily round trips operated

Shared mobility provider Zeelo has entered a partnership with Gatwick Airport to deliver a commuter coach service for employees of the transport hub.

The first route started on Monday and it uses vehicles provided by Passenger Plus. Described as a low-cost service, it runs at peak travel times and is designed to cut congestion and reduce a car dependency among Gatwick employees.

Zeelo has targeted areas that is says are currently under-served by public transport. The first route will operate from West Crawley, and the first employees to sign up received two weeks’ free travel from the start date of Monday (12 August). Additional services are in the pipeline.

The first journeys of the day are scheduled to arrive at the airport at around 0500hrs. When the full service launches on 27 August, rides will cost as little as 88p. Eight morning and eight evening departures will operate.

For the planned additional routes to serve Gatwick, Zeelo is currently sourcing employee data via a ‘register your interest’ page. That will allow it to accurately work out where additional demand exists in areas surrounding Crawley and Horley.

Says Passenger Plus MD Mark Drury: “We’re delighted to partner with Zeelo to provide this service for Gatwick employees.

“Passengers will enjoy our vehicles, which are fitted with USB charging points and wi-fi, on their commute. This work complements other corporate contracts that we operate in the area and the on-boarding with drivers has been simple and easy to pick up
