Go Cornwall Bus, a brand of Go-Ahead Group subsidiary Plymouth Citybus, has been awarded an eight-year contract by Cornwall Council. That will see it deliver a network of 73 bus routes in the county.
The contract is part of the next stage in Cornwall’s One Public Transport System for Cornwall project. It will start on 1 April. The work represents a further 130 buses’ worth of work for the operator above what it already runs.
Cornwall Council says that when awarding the contract, it “took into account how we can increase the use of lower emission vehicles.” The Truro park-and-ride contract has been awarded separately. It is understood to have been retained by First Kernow.
In a message to staff, Plymouth Citybus MD Richard Stevens (pictured) describes the award as “a massive vote of confidence from Cornwall Council” in Go Cornwall Bus.
