Megabus to be suspended in England and Wales

Megabus scheduled coach services in England and Wales will be suspended after Sunday 5 April, Stagecoach has announced. Routes within Scotland will continue to operate.

In a statement, Megabus MD Mark Venables says that the services in England and Wales are to be suspended following government advice to stop non-essential travel. Affected customers will be refunded.

“We firmly believe that the decision to temporarily suspend services is the right one based on the current unprecedented circumstances,” adds Mr Venables.

Stagecoach says the reason why Megabus services will continue to run within Scotland relates to the support package provided by the Scottish Government to the industry north of the border.

Unlike Megabus services in England and Wales, many in Scotland are used by key workers as part of their commutes. As they are thus regarded as essential, it had already been agreed between Stagecoach and the Scottish Government that they would continue to run.

In addition to Megabus’s routes in England and Wales, fellow Stagecoach brand Oxford Tube will halt its operation from Sunday 5 April. National Express will also suspend all of its scheduled coach services from the same date.
