Public transport technology provider Passenger is soon to launch myTrip. It is an app that will help smaller operators to offer mobile ticketing and vehicle tracking and will be released in August. Besides suiting conventional bus routes, it is also compatible with school and shuttle services.

As well as mobile ticketing and tracking, Passenger says that myTrip will also give information about the vehicle. That incorporates when it was last cleaned and real time occupancy data, including for the wheelchair user area(s). The data is drawn from the Enhanced Vehicle Information feature.

App users will be invited to contribute feedback on how busy the service is. That information will then be weighted and analysed against data from ticket machine hardware supplier, drivers and other sources to show the occupancy level in real time.

Passenger says myTrip will assist operators in restoring customer confidence in public transport as movement restrictions are lifted further.

Adds CEO Tom Quay: “Safely returning to normality as the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted is hugely important and is a big task for the UK’s public transport operators.

“Bus companies must balance users’ needs and government guidance. myTrip will help to extend support to every operator to meet these needs confidently, on a fantastic app platform and backed by our hugely dedicated and passionate team.”

myTrip also delivers an in-app, contact-free age verification service for student or other ID-verified discounted tickets. It additionally provides free Bus Open Data Service hosting.

Operators interested in joining myTrip should visit Passenger’s dedicated website.
