Stagecoach North East has worked with North East Action on Transport (NEAT) to develop next stop announcement technology for passengers with visual impairments. Both parties have seen the fruits of that in 18 new Alexander Dennis buses recently delivered.
They have audio-visual announcements with LED screens and are at work from Stockton depot. The operator recently consulted on the system with NEAT members.
Says Stagecoach North East MD Steve Walker: “We believe that providing accessible travel is central to encouraging modal shift.
“By embracing new technology and continually investing in improvements, we’re hoping to break down barriers for those unfamiliar with bus travel.”
