Stringers Coaches of Pontefract has become the first operator to take delivery of the 30-passenger Mellor Strata Ultra, which is based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter underframe.
The Strata Ultra was introduced in 2018. It has a GVW of 6,000kg and its 8.78m length allows 27 seated passengers, along with three standees. Mellor offers a variety of optional amenities, including high-specification seats, wi-fi and USB charging points.
Stringers’ example joins a fleet of 12 vehicles, including one existing Strata. It has been deployed on services between Castleford and Ferry Fryston and it will also be used on school contract work, says Owner Mark Stringer.
“The Strata Ultra caught our attention when it was launched at Euro Bus Expo in 2018. We liked what we saw and placed out order there and then. We needed a small bus, but one with additional capacity to give more flexibility.
“Our purchasing decision was based on Mellor’s reputation for attention to detail and its high level of customer support.
“We’ve not been disappointed and have found that the operational performance of our first Strata to be exceptional in terms of fuel consumption and BSOG rebate. We have every confidence in what this additional vehicle will offer to our business.”
Stringers’ first Strata, a standard model, was delivered in 2018. The Ultra model is further complemented by the Plus variant, which is slightly smaller and offers a total capacity of 27 to give a three-strong low-floor minibus line-up.
