Alan Richardson, a Stagecoach North East engineering manager, has retired after almost 35 years working in the bus industry.
The 62-year-old recently stepped down from his role at the operator’s South Shields depot.
His engineering career started in 1972 as a 16-year-old apprentice with Tyne and Wear PTE. He became a fitter at its South Shields depot in 1976.
After a period working as an engineer outside the industry, he returned to the North East in 1985, joining the local bus company, now Busways, as a fitter at its Byker depot before transferring to South Shields as engineering supervisor.
Subsequently, he became Stagecoach North East’s Teesside depot’s engineering manager in Stockton before returning to the South Shields depot in 2014.
“I will certainly miss the day-to-day running of the workshop, and the great banter I had with all the team and I wish them all the very best,” says Alan.
