Coach operator Anthony’s Travel was named Family Business of the Year (15+ employees) at the Halton Business Awards on 13 June.
The presentation evening was held at the DCBL Stadium in Widnes in front of over 500 attendees, the same venue that only two weeks earlier hosted the Runcorn firm’s 40th birthday celebration.
At that earlier gathering of friends, colleagues and peers in the Halton community, speakers had paid tribute to Anthony’s contribution to life in the area. A fortnight later, it saw off four other shortlisted finalists to claim the Halton Business Awards accolade.
Managing Partner Richard Bamber (pictured, second from left) says that for the Awards victory to come in the 40th year of Anthony’s Travel is “very special.”
He continues: “As a family business with three generations active within the company, we strongly believe that such businesses can make big differences within the communities they serve.
“Our community values have been a cornerstone of our company from the very beginning. To receive this award was the icing on the cake for our anniversary year.”
Anthony’s Travel was founded by Mr Bamber’s parents Tony and Anne in 1985. Mr Bamber Sr died in 2015 but his wife remains a partner in the company alongside Mr Bamber Jr and his wife Dawn (pictured, third from left). Their son Oliver (pictured, second from right) is also part of the team.
“It has always been a priority that despite many changes and growth in the past four decades, our business has retained its family values,” continues Mr Bamber.
“We have a great team of passionate individuals and trusted advisors who share the same ethos. While receiving the award meant a lot personally, this win is not about me – but we, as a team.”
He adds a hope that the actions of Anthony’s Travel over many years have had a positive effect on the community, surrounding area and customers, noting how family-owned companies are at the cornerstone of local life.
“There are so many unheralded businesses with the Borough of Halton, so it was wonderful to celebrate not only our own success but importantly, the success of others and hearing about the wonderful work of the apprentices, individuals and other amazing business within Halton.
“We would like to extend our congratulations to the many worthy winners and finalists.”
