Campaign for Better Transport has appointed Darren Shirley as its new Chief Executive. He will take over from Stephen Joseph, who is stepping down after 30 years in this role.
Darren comes to the organisation with over 10 years’ experience in the environmental sector having worked for WWF, Greenpeace UK and National Energy Action.
He says: “It’s a real pleasure to be taking on this role at an organisation that has been at the forefront of sustainable transport campaigning for more than three decades.
“Given the current crisis in public transport, and appalling levels of air pollution, delivering sustainable transport has never been more important than it is now.
“The next few years will be key to creating a better transport system that works for communities, protects the environment, and improves quality of life.
“I look forward to leading Campaign for Better Transport to influence what the future of transport looks like and continuing its vital work supporting local communities to oppose damaging road schemes or fight bus cuts, and demanding a better experience for rail passengers.”
