Claire Haigh has been appointed head of Zemo Partnership. She will take up the post in January 2024 and succeed CEO Andy Eastlake, who steps down after more than a decade leading the organisation.
Ms Haigh is currently Vice-Chair of the Partnership. She is also Founder and CEO of Greener Vision (formerly Green Transport Solutions), Executive Director of the Transport Knowledge Hub, and Chair of the Delivery and Impacts Independent Review Panel for the Joint Air Quality Unit. Until 2020 she was CEO of campaign organisation Greener Journeys.
In early 2023, Ms Haigh carried out what the Partnership describes as “a wide-ranging survey of the views of senior stakeholders on the past role and future opportunities for Zemo, providing input to a strategic review commissioned for the Partnership’s 20th year.”
A key conclusion of that work was that the priority now for net-zero is delivery of targets. Zemo says that such an achievement will be its primary focus under new leadership. It recently established a Zero Emission Mobility Taskforce to support that.
Mr Eastlake became head of what was then the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) in 2012. He has overseen significant development of the organisation and its redirection as Zemo Partnership, and was a founding member of LowCVP in 2003.
Zemo Partnership Chair Philip Sellwood CBE has thanked Mr Eastlake for his work, noting that he has made “an outstanding contribution” to the decarbonisation agenda, “driving mobility in all its forms on a faster route towards net-zero.”
Adds Mr Sellwood: “Much has been achieved so far, but there is still much to do as we progress into the delivery phase of the decarbonisation transition.”
Speaking about her appointment, Claire Haigh says: “I am delighted to be taking the helm of Zemo Partnership at this crucial juncture for the net-zero agenda. Climate change is our greatest predicament and decarbonising transport is one of the toughest challenges of all.
“The UK has some world-leading targets, but what is now needed is a laser-like focus on delivery. Crucially, we need the right policies and incentives to enable the investment in and support of the supply chain transition.
“There is a massive amount to do, but there has also been significant progress. Under Andy’s exemplary leadership, Zemo has been there as the honest broker every step of the way – working with government, industry and academia to find solutions for net-zero road transport.”
