Leon Daniels has been named President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) (CILT (UK)) for 2023. Mr Daniels – as a Fellow of the Institute – will hold the position for 12 months from 1 January. He succeeds RAC Foundation Director Steve Gooding, who was President for two years from 2021.
Mr Daniels’ achievements in public transport are well known. They include seven years as Transport for London (TfL) Director, Surface Transport. He retired from TfL in 2017 and now advises governments and organisations.
Elevation to President follows three years as a Vice-President. Speaking about the appointment, Leon Daniels says: “It is such a fantastic honour to be named President of CILT (UK) for 2023.
“As a member of CILT for nearly 30 years, I recognise the importance of an active professional community for those working in the disciplines of logistics and transport, and it is a huge privilege to serve as President.
“As a professional body, we have a responsibility to develop our profession and our members, and I look forward to working with the board of Directors and Vice-Presidents to promote CILT and support members in their career aspirations.”
Adds CILT (UK) Chief Executive Sharon Kindleysides: “Leon is a globally recognised expert in transport and logistics, and I am delighted to welcome him as President of CILT (UK). His experience and expertise across a broad range of countries, companies and transport disciplines means that the Institute is set to benefit from his leadership, knowledge and skills.
“I would also like to thank Steve Gooding for a successful two years as CILT (UK)’s President and the friendship and support he has shown me. Steve has played a crucial role in the development of the Institute through the challenges of the past two years, and we look forward to continuing to benefit from his support in driving the Institute forward in his continued role as Vice-President.”
