Go-Ahead Group operator Morebus is donating £23,000 to Dorset and Wiltshire children’s hospice Julia’s House to back the work it does to support families caring for seriously ill children.
The charity has a dedicated team of nurses and carers who support parents and siblings by providing respite care within both a hospice and those families’ own homes.
The Morebus donation will partly be put towards The Great Tail Trail. Those giant mermaid tail sculptures will be on display in spring 2025 across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area. Each will be sponsored by a local business or organisation, with proceeds going to the Julia’s House hospice.
Some of the funding from Morebus will also support the hospice’s complementary therapy. It is used alongside conventional medical treatment to help people feel better physically, emotionally and mentally. The hospice’s therapists’ wide range of treatments help family members to relax and unwind, Morebus notes.
Speaking about the donation, Go South Coast Head of Communications Nikki Honer (pictured, second from right) says: “Julia’s House provides many families in Dorset and Wiltshire with much-needed support – and we are keen to assist this vital community resource in any way we can.
“We know the hospice’s excellent team will put the funds to very good use, caring for people who live across our region, at a time when they need it most.”
Adds Julia’s House Public Fundraising Manager Laura Maidment (pictured, left): “We are so grateful to Morebus for its incredibly generous donation.
“It is wonderful to have it onboard as a sponsor for The Great Tail Trail, which will be a really exciting event that everyone can enjoy for free next spring. The donation will also directly help the families and children that we care for by enabling more of them to benefit from a range of complementary therapies that will support them physically and mentally.”
